Birth School Metallica Death The Inside Story of Metallica (1981-1991)

Birth School Metallica Death-The Inside Story of Metallica (1981-1991) Paperback (2014) by Paul Brannigan (Author), and Ian Winwood (Author).

I finished reading this Metallica book after borrowing it from my sister.

I knew a lot of the facts, since I was a fan, and had bought a lot of rock/metal fanzines and magazines back in the 1980s.

It filled in a lot of details I did not know, so, it is a good history book on the band, for somebody like me that stopped caring about them as much (around 1990).

Cool that Toronto and Canada was mentioned a few times.

Some stuff I was reminded of, pissed me off.

They mention the  Kerrang cover from 1984 where Lars was spray painted (gold or silver).
I had that autographed by the band, and a few years later sold it for next to nothing to a book store.
There were no websites like today with eBay back then to make at least your money back and more. Used book stores, and used record stores were the parasites off anybody that was desperate for money.

The sequel is "Into the Black: The Inside Story of Metallica (1991-2014)" by Paul Brannigan (Author), Ian Winwood (Author), but I am not in a a rush to read that, as I think this period is when the band not only became worldly popular, but also a bunch of rock star fags

Maybe Megadeth also jumped on the rockstar bandwagon too, but for me the difference is, Metallica released only 2 of the greatest albums in metal, then kept adding filler tracks, starting with their "Master of Puppets" album.

Metallica have consistently gone downhill in quality ever since, even if they sold more records.

When the majority of records is sold by popstars, it does not mean that garbage is good.
The majority of people all over this planet also blindly vote for those that are deemed popular by the media.

There WAS a band member, or two, who did get it right.
Like Dave Mustaine ...
Megadeth for me since the debut "Killing Is My Business...And Business is Good", didn't start disappointing me until after they broke up in 2001. ...took awhile to enjoy the comeback albums for different reasons.

Everything (ex-Metallica) Dave Mustaine and his guys put out, even what many old fans thought was weak or simply hard rock, with the "Cryptic Writings" and "Risk" albums (trying to capture that dizzying heights Metallica / Black Sabbath / Ozzy-type success) always gave me songs I could relate to and enjoy, on EVERY Megadeth album......unlike Metallica's.

I had to cherry pick what I liked / enjoyed off Metallica releases, and smiled when the cover songs they played were always million times better than their stinky originals

Not speaking for most real underground metal fans, but merely as one of them, it was a shame what Jason Newsted put up with.
The bassist joined his favourite band, the band he was inspired by, and modeled his own speed/thrash metal outfit on.
FLOTSAM & JETSAM's debut "Doomsday For The Deceiver"  was a power metal / high speed / thrash metal classic.
Imagine Metallica's "Ride The Lightning:" ,  Exodus' "Bonded By Blood" , and Anthrax's "Fistful of Metal" Lp's combined together.

If you buy the "Doomsday For The Deceiver" CD version , you get the bonus of their best song ever, an instrumental from a 12 inch single called "Flotzilla".!

The money must have been pretty good for Jason to stick around, and be treated like a goof, or ignored, for all those years, to stay in Metallica.
I was glad to discover two years ago he was online and selling his debut Newsted - (2013) Metal EP / minii album CD directly to fans, autogrpahed also.
Was cool to buy an inexpensive T-shirt with it.

For unknown reasons, he pulled the plug on his last band, his website, everything.
Just as fast as he appeared, and started touring with Megadeth on Gigantour  , he was gone.

My only guess is too many so-called fans liked it, but never bought a copy like they would with an inferior Metallica album.
His album (2013) Heavy Metal Music LP was impossible for me to find to buy  (I do NOT buy through Amazon, CDBaby, or similar corporate giants), and later, finally discovered the vinyl was on  Discogs  around the time the announcement happened.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsted
and...
Newsted's story, generally from what I know of it, through the internet, magazines, and books like "Birth School Metallica Death" is an old familiar one. Reminds me a lot of another  bass player, Bill Wyman.

Yes, Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones went through a similar band experience, just not any hazing / pranks for years like Newsted endured.

Wyman kept his mouth shut, played, and took whatever money the band gave him, but kept his sanity by staying away as much as possible.
If his book "Stone Alone" is true, Bill Wyman was a sex addict and relieved his stress of hardly getting his songs onto albums, by having a LOT of women
Probably as much or more than Mick Jagger ever has had, but Wyman is one of the most discreet gentlemen in the world or rock...or he had the luxury of the press not caring what he did as he was not Jagger or Keith Richards.

This article / rant won't stop any of you Metallica fanboys from still buying their shit and paying ridiclous prices for concert tickets.
meh.
they helped kickstart the underground scene with some of the coolest stuff along with Venom and Raven and Exciter and countless other bands, so will never completely kick them to the curb.

go read this, you will probably agree with all of it - http://www.kerrang.com/16256/12-reasons-james-hetfield-rocks/

Bob Daisley "For Fact's Sake" book

I finally got around and ordered the Bob Daisley book some months ago

It arrived in the mail with.very, very fast delivery , it took only about one or two weeks..

http://bobdaisley.com/for-facts-sake/order-now

It was kind of expensive with shipping costs/exchange rate I guess, but I don't mind.
I am reading the book again for the second time.

Excellent for the history of this bass player and associated bands, includes a discography, lots of rare photographs, and delivers a funny line, now and then, when you don't expect it.

I don't understand how anybody who is a huge fan of the 2 Blizzard of Ozz Lp's (re: Ozzy's first 2 "solo" albums) would not want to learn the truth of how / why the original lineup was destroyed by that moneygrubbing cunt Sharon...

it also blows my mind how nice Bob is, including when he explains what happened to the Blizzard of Ozz.

I personally would have filled chapters and chapters of all the dirt I knew about her...with the filthiest words known to mankind, as she has conned most people into not knowing how brutal and conniving she is.

anyways,
I cannot recommended it enough for you to also buy this book, you can get it autographed too on the inside.

-----------------------------

With a friend, we attended the first (and last) visit by the original ECW organization.
The ticket for general admission cost $32.25 (Canadian!) +, plus the service charge+tax.

Until I finally got to watch this recently (and I have been wanting to see it pretty bad for over 15 years!), I forgot how packed the place was back then, as even Americans traveled up here, to witness it.

The video is filmed by one of the men standing around the wrestling ring, and there are choppy edits between wrestlers' entrances and matches.

I was told  2 weeks later, a mutual friend The Beast From the East (no, not the real Bam Bam Bigelow, but the dude's nickname / IRC chat handle),
that only ONE match was televised on the ECW on TNN broadcast the next week.

 or a bigger set,  from

(I ASSUME it is the same video? There were probably 2 or 3 or 4 video-cameras rolling the entire time).

Undecided f I will buy a copy.

Jul 25, 2015 - In a galaxy, far , far , away....we had the ATARI 2600

I posted these pics on facebook about 3 years ago (when I still had an account on that stupid site).

yes
This is the Gemini console below with the 2600.
The Gemini was a clone, it cost less, came with 2 games, MouseTrap (i traded MouseTrap away for  Planet Patrol with a highschool friend in Grade 9), and Donkey Kong, plus it had superior hand paddles/controllers.

By the time my Mom finally bought it for me and my sister,  (after a LOT of nagging to spend the $100+ ,
ha ha!), everybody else was rocking the Atari 4800, Intellivision, Colecovision, etc..
Anyways, the 2600 was needed, as I had blown a ton of money (and maybe broke?) at the back of many variety stores; filling video-game machines with quarters for like -
Asteroids, Galaga, Defender, Ms.Pacman, DonkeyKong, Galaxian, etc

Right now,
If I wasn't watching old ECW matches from the late 1990s,
I might hook up the system, or maybe the Nintend64.
Gave away many PC games in 2003, like Serious SamPostal 2 ,   No One Lives Forever 2,

Should have made some CD-R copies..
Only have a few copies of PC games left, like Delta Force: Land Warrior.

By the time I was told of other games many, many years later (2001?) with realistic life-likegraphics , like HALO or Call of Duty, I had lost most of my enthusiasm for First Person Shooters and for electronic games in general.

WHAT KILLED THE FWE?

Just finished reading this article right now, and suggest you also do it.---
WHAT KILLED THE FWE? THE QUESTION WE MAY SOON BE ASKING...AND HERE'S THE ANSWER  By Mike Johnson on 2015-03-16 http://www.pwinsider.com/article/92359/what-killed-the-fwe-the-question-we-may-soon-be-askingand-heres-the-answer.html?p=1

Since I can't really afford to support anything, but still feel I should, then my dollars for wrestling go to only buying SHIMMER DVDs. They earned my loyalty with consistently good merchandise and affordable prices.

Been waiting since the end of April , for 2 x 2 DVD combination orders (that is 4 dvd's). My bill said "SHIMMER Vol. 66 & Vol. 67 Two DVD Combo PRE-ORDER (ships during May)",  was to be hoped for released the next week.

It is almost August, so it is 12 weeks overdue.

In the past they have been a little late, so am not that upset yet, especially as VISA can always get my dough back, but starting to get frustrated as the next set of video taping in October will be for Volumes 76 & 77.

That is a lot of dvd volumes they are behind in reproducing for the fans.
Half the blame is due to whoever they hired for manufacturing the finished DVD's (dubbing discs, printing covers).

When you order from SHIMMER and if it includes a "pre-order", then all of it sits, until all of it is ready to go..
Unless you are not a cheapskate like me, and pay for each available DvD separately , apart from the per-ordered, to get quick shipping.

You know me,
sometimes I splurge, then sometimes I save.

I get twisted up over the stupid costs from USPS and CanadaPost when I know they keep carriers who will lose your mail, are irresponsible,  but never get fired.

anyways...
read the article I linked...

Makes me wonder about others selling off their Shimmer DVD collections, as there are downloads where you can get it all (or almost all) for free.

If I start selling off everything online at Discogs and eBay  then you will now that I gave up, and I finally do not care about anything, and don't care about others' survival.
If everybody wants to push for digital only, then fine. I will never send another physical package or letter out, strictly uploads and emails, and will just download everything for free.
Had too many  hard drives die on me and I lost all the music and videos on them. Everybody must be nuts to think I will pay for material that can disappear.
